Redundancy support for employees

Being told your role is at risk is a difficult thing to hear, and it is rarely followed by useful information about what to do next. This page explains what we do, who pays for it, and what happens if you contact us.

What we help with

We work with you one to one. The starting point depends on where you are, and for most people it is not the CV.

  • Working out what you actually want next

Most people go straight to applying. Deciding what you are aiming at first makes everything after it easier.

  • Your CV

Written or rewritten for the roles you are going for, not a general-purpose document.

  • Interview preparation

Practice interviews with honest feedback afterwards.

  • Your LinkedIn profile

A large share of hiring starts with a search there, and a dormant profile costs you opportunities you never hear about.

  • Understanding the job market where you live

Which employers are hiring near you, and how they actually recruit.

  • Going self-employed or changing direction

If redundancy is the push to do something different, we will work through it with you properly.

  • Planning for retirement

If this is the end of your working life rather than a step in it, that deserves proper thought too.

Who pays

Your employer pays, in most cases. Outplacement support is commissioned and paid for by the organisation making the redundancies, and it costs you nothing.

If your employer has not arranged anything, contact us anyway. We will tell you what is available and point you towards the free support that exists locally if we are not the right people for you.

Where to go for the legal and financial questions

We handle career support. We do not give employment-law or financial advice, and we will tell you plainly when a question belongs somewhere else.

For statutory redundancy pay, notice periods and consultation rules, use Acas and GOV.UK. For money questions after redundancy, use MoneyHelper.

The support does not run out

There is no date in your file after which we stop replying.

Outplacement is usually bought in fixed blocks of three, six or twelve months. If you are still looking when the block ends, the support ends anyway. That is a problem for anyone whose search takes longer than average, which includes most people at a senior level and most people who have been with one employer a long time.

We keep working with you until you are into your next role.
