About outplacement
What is outplacement?
Outplacement is career support that an employer pays for on behalf of employees leaving the organisation, usually through redundancy. It covers career coaching, CV writing, interview preparation, LinkedIn and understanding the local job market. The employer commissions and pays for it; the person leaving receives it.
What does outplacement mean?
It means placing someone out of an organisation and into their next role, rather than simply ending their employment. The word describes the employer's side of the arrangement. From the employee's point of view it is career support they did not have to pay for.
What is included in outplacement services?
Ours includes career coaching and goal setting, CV creation and optimisation, interview preparation with role play and feedback, LinkedIn profile development, job market navigation, support for people moving into self-employment or changing career, and pre-retirement planning. Every part is delivered one to one.
How long does outplacement support last?
Ours has no end date. Most outplacement is sold in blocks of three, six or twelve months, and when the block expires the support stops whether or not the person has found work. We keep working with someone until they are into their next role.
What does outplacement cost?
We quote for each piece of work rather than publish a rate, because what is involved varies. The things that move the figure are how many people are being supported, how senior they are, and how much of the support is delivered face to face.
Duration is the variable that usually matters most across the market, since providers price three, six and twelve month blocks differently. It does not apply to us, because we do not put an end date on the support. Tell us what is happening and we will give you a figure for your situation.
If you are an employee
Who pays for my support?
Your employer, in most cases. Outplacement is commissioned and paid for by the organisation making the redundancies, and it costs you nothing.
My employer has not offered anything. Can I still contact you?
Yes. Contact us and we will tell you what is available. If we are not the right people for you we will point you towards the free support that exists locally.
I have not written a CV in years. Is that a problem?
No, and it is the most common situation we see. Long service is normal in Yorkshire's manufacturing, logistics and public sector employers, and people who have been somewhere fifteen or twenty years are exactly who this support is built for.
Can you help if I want to change career or go self-employed?
Yes. Redundancy is often the push for a change someone has been considering for years, and we work through it properly rather than steering you back to the same job title.

Where to go for the legal and financial questions
We handle career support. We do not give employment-law or financial advice, and we will tell you plainly when a question belongs somewhere else.
For statutory redundancy pay, notice periods and consultation rules, use Acas and GOV.UK. For money questions after redundancy, use MoneyHelper.
